Official 'Edge of Tomorrow' Poster.
Possible the surprise movie of this year, 'Edge of Tomorrow' proves to be one of the best summer movies of the year and solidifies "Tom Cruise"'s position as an action star.

"Emily Blunt".
"Tom Cruise".
An alien race called 'The Mimics' has invaded earth. They have the ability to reset the day, which is giving them an edge that is threatening the alienation of the human race as we know it. Major 'William Cage'(Tom Cruise) is a member of the NATO-led United Defense Forces and the face of the military's public relations propaganda campaign. ‘Cage' is ordered by his supervisor General 'Brigham'(Brendan Gleeson) to cover the combat in the front lines on the beaches of France. But when 'Cage' tries to escape from his orders, he is forced to go to the front lines and fight the enemy on the Judgment Day that will decide the result of this war. There overwhelmed and trying to save his life he accidentally grasps the ability of the enemy, which is to reset time. He wakes up at the beginning of the day and relives the same events that happened to him over and over again. During one of these times, he bumps into Sergeant 'Rita Vrataski'(Emily Blunt), who apparently knows what he is going through. With 'Rita' as his trainer, 'Cage' has to relive the day over and over again in order become a more effective soldier so he can unlock the secrets of 'The Mimics' and try to win the war. Other major characters include Master Sergeant 'Farell'(Bill Paxton), Dr. 'Carter'(Noah Taylor), 'Griff'(Kick Gurry), 'Kuntz'(Dragomir Mrsic), 'Nance'(Charlotte Riley), 'Skinner'(Jonas Armstrong), 'Ford'(Franz Drameh), and 'Kimmel'(Tony Way).

"Brendan Gleeson".
"Tom Cruise".
Over the past years many sci-fi movies were being made by studios like "Matt Damon"'s 'Elysium' last year. Also "Tom Cruise" over the years has been entering into this genre, just like when he starred in last year's modest hit 'Oblivion'. This movie is based on the Japanese 'All You Need is Kill' light novel by Japanese novelist "Hiroshi Sakurazaka". Whenever a movie tackles time jumps mixed with military action style fights, one should be fearful of the end result. Yet 'Edge of Tomorrow' proves to be one of the best summer movies of this year. What is more surprising is that the last couple of years, "Tom Cruise" have been making many action movies that weren't box office hits. This one is surely not going to be a massive box office hit; however, it sure solidified "Cruise"'s status as an action movie star. The idea that the movie tackles isn't new.Yet it's execution was very creative and spot on, where it was interpreted in a very clever manner that made it enjoyable. Adding to it is the really impressive visual effects and the cinematography was top notch and made the experience that much fun. It also elevated the level of the movie. If one is looking for a slick, fun and developed movie, 'Edge of Tomorrow' is your choice.

"Tom Cruise" and "Bill Paxton".
Director "Doug Liman" is known for his exceptional work on the first movie of the 'The Bourne' film series, also 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' and 2010's Palme D'or Winner 'Fair Game'. The sophistication and polished work he does brings forward in this movie made it very imaginative yet sleek. His directing style very much helps the movie standout, also the perfect editing done towards the time traveling part of the story was executed in a clever manner. "Christopher McQuarrie"('The Wolverine'), "Jez Butterwoth" and "John-Henry Butterworth"('Fair Game') came up with a very exceptional script that maintains its clear drama and high stake, while preserving the development of the main character, including very few yet nice laughs through the script of the movie. Yet the work done both from the part of the director and the writers in the last half of the movie(excluding the ending) was disappointing and for many kind of shook what the whole movie was leading up to, in terms of story and characters development. The visual effects were extraordinary and the pallet of the movie that was chosen intelligently balanced the dark underlying theme of the movie and the high stakes that the story included. "Christopher Beck"('Pitch Perfect' and 'EndlessLove') provided the movie with a beautiful score that complimented the movie very well.

"Noah Taylor", "Tom Cruise"
and "Emilty Blunt".
"Franz Drameh", "Kick Gurry", "Bill
Paxton" and "Charlotte Riley".
The pacing of the movie was well done and the time frame of the movie felt right, thought at certain point unnecessarily extended. The full realization of the sci-fi elements of the movie was one of the success points of 'Edge of Tomorrow'. From the weapons and armor, to the actual alien race 'The Mimics', everything related to these points were full done and few instances where one might actually find a flaw to question these elements. In my opinion, the movie could be divided into three parts. The first half is everything before the big moment when the movie actually kicks and the time traveling/repeat starts happening, the middle part and finally the climax scene. The middle part for sure was the best part which included many favorite scenes like 'Rita' trains 'Cage' multiple times, both soldiers attempting to succeed with their plans, and the actual fight scenes. Also the changes that one could easily sense and see each time 'Cage' gets into the same situation was also one of the highlights of the entire movie. The first part really gave us for the first time in a long year an insight on "Cruise"'s true acting skill variety (also shown through the entirety of the move). While the climax scene of the movie wasn't at all bad, the actual event was disappointing seeing what had been previously set. The final scene of the movie was truly good in my opinion, and it was a weird yet meaningful way to end the movie.

"Emily Blunt".
Truly the movie was made successful due to the duo stars of this film "Tom Cruise" and "Emily Blunt". "Tom Cruise" is an international star and the reason that we constantly see him each year in a movie is because of his star power and increasing box office draw (internationally more than in the US). What made me like "Cruise"'s performance in this movie was truly his acting skill. In previous movies like 'Oblivion', he gave us "Tom Cruise" the star that is known for his status as an action hero. Yet in 'Edge of Tomorrow', "Tom" actually put forward his acting chops, where we were actually seeing his ability to truly develop a character in a full manner rather than seeing autonomy in his performances. "Emily Blunt" just shocked everyone. First with her dedication physically (Physically fit and hot) and second her ability to play a tom-boyish girl, who can keep up and sometimes over impose herself on "Tom Cruise". Furthermore, the natural chemistry that was felt between both actors was genuine. Yet what felt missing was the development in the relationship of these two characters. Also "Emily"'s character never gave us all of what it could have given and the writers chose to remove her arc. "Bill Paxton" was convincing yet at time over chewing his character, "Brendan Gleeson" was a welcome addition and was included in one of the best scenes of the movie. The remaining supporting actors/actresses performed well seeing the supporting roles in this movie. Still it was nice to see that the director gave each one his 15 seconds of fame.

'Edge of Tomorrow' may have suffered a bit from the over-stuffed summer season in terms of box office, but soon many will realize how much this movie is a clever-fun movie (a combination rarely found these days).
