Official 'That Awkward Moment' Poster.
An entertaining and mostly fun romantic comedy film, whose main reason of success comes from the incredible chemistry of its three male stars.

"Zac Efron",
"Imogen Poots".
Twenty-something playboys 'Jason'(Zac Efron) and 'Daniel'(Miles Teller) spend the remaining of their after work time searching for girls, in order to continue their roster of eligible sex partners. However, their very close friend 'Mikey'(Michael B. Jordan) has just found out that his wife 'Vera'(Jessica Lucas) has been cheating on him for quite a while. So in order to re-engage him into the bachelor life-style, 'Jason' and 'Daniel' decides to take 'Mikey' out and later on come up with a pact to not enter into any relationship with any woman. But with 'Jason' accidentally meeting a former one-night stand 'Ellie'(Imogen Poots), who he starts having feelings for and enjoying her company, and 'Daniel' starting to fall in love with his wing girl 'Chelsea'(Mackenzie Davis), things starts to take a downturn. The three guys will have to find a way to maintain their new found romantic relationships without getting too serious and even trying to avoid damaging their long-time friendship between each other.

This movie has had a long run to get to the big screen. First the script, which was originally titled 'Are We Officially Dating?’ was back in 2010 one of the top unproduced comedy screenplay around at that time. Then things moved a bit slow with it being acquired and the production getting a green light. The story isn't that innovative or different from similar movie in terms of context, in term of tackling the normal issues in a deeper manner. But the structure and its application may have given it the necessary push it required. What in my opinion appealed the audiences to go watch it was the three male lead actors, who basically are the stars of the movie and without them this movie would have probably flopped at the box office and went unnoticed. In general, the movie is a fun 90 minutes of laughs and at some points few scenes that could have made this movie an R-rated movie. It attracted young guys, who could go see it as bros or couples, who could enjoy a romantic date.

Newcomer "Tom Gormican" actually both directed the movie and was responsible of writing the story. Many people might discard this movie as a brainless attempt to cash in on this genre and the stars, but actually the truthfulness that was shown to a relatively generic story and the realistic approach is what made the movie stand out. The attempt to add many recent gags and technological references to the story gave it a certain recent aspect into acknowledging our world today, but still it did not help much. The skilled director, who obviously has a lot of potential, did a wonderful job surrounding the movie around its cast to lift up the up and downs and the cliché moments that the movie has at many instances. Composer "David Torn" at many instances surprised me with many beautiful scores that upgraded many scenes emotionally. And overall, the composer , known for scoring 'Twilight' and 'A Knight's Tale', provided a solid score that actually elevated the movie and tired to give it emotional depth.

The time frame of the movie was acceptable, seeing that movies these days are very much exceeding the 90 minutes time frame in order to allow the movie breathing space. But 'The Awkward Moment' manages to show that no additional and useless scenes are needed. Most of the scenes of the movie are good and nice to watch. But to be honest, the scenes where the three main actors "Zac Efron", "Miles Teller", and "Michael B. Jordan", all appear together and interact are the ones that really make the movie succeed. From the walking on the street, to partying and trying to get girls to sleep with them, these are all scenes that stand out and allow the viewer to laugh (genuinely laugh, though the degree of laughing does differ). Other scenes that stood out were 'Jason' teaching 'Daniel' how to pee while taking a break from sexual intercourse (being as respectful as one can be seeing the nature of the moment), 'Jason' and 'Daniel' making fun of 'Mikey''s man parts, restaurant scenes, and the climax scene when 'Jason' catches 'Daniel' and 'Chelsea' doing the nasty action in the bathroom.

"Imogen Poots" and "Zac Efron".
As mentioned before, the main lead male cast was the ones that really made the movie work and enjoyable. "Zac Efron" enters again another movie trying to show the more mature actor that he is. And that is why he was trying to achieve in his movies lately ('The Lucky One', 'Parkland' and recently 'Neighbors'). "Miles Teller" shows again why he is one of the upcoming actors that everyone needs to watch, proving that he is genuinely a funny guy. "Michael B. Jordan" also proved his acting chops and ability to merge comedy with drama and emotions. And the chemistry with his lead male co-stars, especially with "Miles Teller"( who will soon co-star in the upcoming reboot 'Fantastic Four' alongside "Kate Mara" and "Jaime Bell"), made the movie and allowed it to become enjoyable. Newcomer "Imogen Poots" performed well in comparison with her co-stars and was able to compose herself. She had few shining moments and blended well with their bromance chemistry. The remaining supporting characters performed well and did the job that they were given.

Overall, the potential of the movie was big. Still the movie did perform below its potential and expectation but able to remain an enjoyable and entertaining movie.
