Review: Pacific Rim *Spoilers Alert Do NOT forget to rate this post when you finish.
Official 'Pacific Rim' Poster.
One of the most anticipated movies of 2013,
'Pacific Rim' definitely showed all the people out there that a robot vs. alien
monsters movie can totally be made in a very epic and awesome way.
"Charlie Hunnam".
"Rinki Kikuchi" and "Idris Alba".
After the emergence of a portal on the
floor of the Pacific Ocean, gigantic and vicious monsters, called 'Kaijus'
start to emerge from the portal and attack the humans and their cities. For a
while nations of the 'Pacific Rim''s robots, which are called 'Jaegers', were able to
fight the 'Kaijus' and save the planet; however, when the monsters starts to
become stronger and deadlier, commander of the 'Jaegers' 'Stacker
Pentecost'(Idris Alba)'s plan is the only way to save humanity. So he redeploys
the remaining 'Jaegers' and re-instate retired pilot 'Raleigh Becket'(Charlie
Hunnam) to attempt a final plan hoping to save the world.
"Max Martini" and "Robert Kazinsky".
"Ron Perlman" and "Charlie Day".
Other major characters in the story also include
'Mako Mori'(Rinko Kikuchi) a rookie pilot and 'Stacker''s understudy, 'Dr. Newton Geiszler'(Charlie Day) a
scientist studying the 'Kaijus', 'Dr. Hermann Gottleib'(Burn Gorman) another
scientist studying the 'Kaijus', 'Herc Hansen'(Max Martini) an Australian pilot
and co-pilots with his son, ‘Chuck Hansen'(Robert Kazinsky) one of the finest Australian
pilots left in the resistance and 'Herc''s son, 'Tendo Choi'(Clifton Collins
Jr.) 'Jaeger' technician, 'Yancy Becket'(Diego Klattenhoff) 'Raleigh''s older
brother, and 'Hannibal Chau'(Ron Perlman) a black marketer.
"Burn Gorman".
"Cliftion Collins Jr.".
If you have been living for the past 6 years
or so, you would for sure know about the ongoing reports and rumors of
"Guillermo Del Toro"'s work on 'Pacific Rim'. And for the last year a
heavy marketing strategy was deployed and the excitement grew. And this excitement
was for sure in its place. I never saw a robot vs. monster movie being done in such an epic way and grand scale. This movie has certainly all the characteristics of
a blockbuster summer movie: great fighting scenes, constant action, clear
storyline, and exquisite and spectacular special effects. If you are a fan of a movie having
huge fighting scenes between robots and monster, then this will feel as a
perfect movie. However, if you are going in and expecting a deep and emotional
story, then you won’t find that much of that in this movie.
"Charlie Hunnam" and
"Rinko Kikuchi".
'Jaeger'.
"Guillermo Del Toro" is considered
as one of the best directors of our generation. His work as a director on movies such
as 'Hellboy' franchise and 'Pan's Labyrinth' shows the wide imagination he has and his
exquisite designs. 'Pacific Rim' definitely gave him the ability to invest his
full capabilities in a great manner. The negative about this movie was the
script. The screenplay which was done by "Del Toro" and "Travis
Beacham"('Clash of the Titans') was a good script but not a great one. The
story was straight forward and simple, but the character's arcs and emotional
development was weak, and if it was existent the movie would have been perfect.
Moreover, there were certain plot holes like the anti-Kaijus walls and the
quick passing of the overall detailed mechanics of the 'Jaegers'. However, this
will not ruin the overall exhilarating experience. The special effects and
overall designs were one of the best I have seen so far, and all the new
special effects technology were deployed in the best way possible. Thehe
attention to details was much appreciated. The music, which was composed by
"Ramin Djawadi"('Clash of the Titans' and 'Safe House'), really helped
the movie's overall experience and elevated its quality.
'Kaijus'.
"Rinko Kikuchi", "Idris Alba",
and "Charli Hunnman".
From beginning to end, I thought that this
movie moved at the right pace. The time frame was good, though it could have
used a bit more time for the development of the characters. The fighting sequences are definitely the best scenes of the movie, which was obvious from the moment the trailers were shown. In addition, the
middle battle scene was so fun to watch and captivating, and its
development and the new ideas incorporated within it were really good. Two other scenes that
really caught my attention were that of young 'Mariko' and that of 'Mariko' and
'Raleigh''s fight scene. This shows that if more character development was
found, the overall end result would have been even better. The last battle was
great, yet became a little bit cartoonish and lost its way (just a tiny bit) towards the end.
'Kaijus'.
'Jaeger'.
The cast was one of the best movie casts of
this year; however, there experience and talents were not used that well due to
the lack of character baggage in the script. "Idris
Alba"('Prometheus' and 'Thor') is a renowned actor who has proven himself in Hollywood. I am amazed by his ability to keep his mark on each character he
plays. And he was able to successfully play a leader role in this movie. "Charlie
Hunnman", who is best known for his role in the TV series 'Sons of Anarchy', does a
great job and was able to bring emotion to his character, that should’ve had
more development. Nonetheless he did a great job and this role will allow him
to further launch his career towards better roles. "Rinko Kikuchi"
also does an acceptable job and had very good baggage to work with her character,
though it wasn't stable throughout the whole movie. And the chemistry between
her and "Hunnman" and "Alba" respectively was a good
one."Charlie Day" provides the comedic relief in the movie, and
actually does a good job keeping the humor along with "Burn Gorman".
The supporting actors, "Max Martini", "Robert Kazinsky",
"Clifton Collins Jr." and "Diego Klattenhoff" were solid
and the appearance of "Ron Perlman" was great.
'Pacific Rim' is one of the best movie experiences
I have ever seen and experienced in my life. Hopefully the planned sequel will
improve on the mistakes to give us a better experience.
