Director “Anne
Fletcher”, who has directed the 2007 romantic comedy ’27 Dresses’, already, had
experience in such movie genres. Therefore, basically she did a very good job
directing this movie. Successfully
allowing the story to move at a good pace, while allowing it leads actors to
shine and make this movie entertaining. The story, which was written by “Pete Chiarell”, was good and was able to stay
stable amidst the confusion that might arise in these kinds of movies. “Aaron Zigman”, who scored previous movies
such as ‘The Notebook’ and ‘The Ugly Truth’, did a magnificent job with
allowing the movie to shine and enhanced the overall end movie.
The beginning of
the movie was great for us to get to know the main character’s overall
personality. And from there, the movie moved at a good pace incorporated great
comedic moments from both “Reynolds” and “Bullock”. The emotional development
of the characters was important for the movie, yet it wasn’t developed in the
best way possible. Still you could feel the main emotions that the director and
producer wanted the audience to get. My best movie moments were ‘Margaret’ and ‘Andrew’
night talk, ‘Margaret’ and ‘Grandma Annie’’s dance, and the final revelation
scene. The credits scenes were also funny to watch.
The movie’s
success in my opinion was purely because of the main characters which were
portrayed by “Sandra Bullock” and “Ryan Reynolds”. “Sandra Bullock” is one of
my favorite actresses. Even though she is talented in all movie genres, her playfield
is definitely comedy. The energy and charisma, innate comedy, and emotions that
she brought to the character were spectacular and made it fun for us to watch.
And teaming her up with “Ryan Reynolds” was a great move. “Reynolds” is an
actor where you feel that he makes no effort being that funny, which worked
perfectly in this movie and alongside “Bullock”. Both had great chemistry, and
bringing them together they nailed their scenes. The remaining supporting
characters were great but both “Betty White” and “Oscar Nunez” shined the most.

One of the best and
highest grossing romantic comedy movies of 2009 and ever in my opinion, ‘The
Proposal’ merges emotion and comedy in a great way especially with it leading
stars.

‘Margaret Tate’

(Ryan Reynolds) to marry her. But when they realize that Mr. Gilbertson (Denis
O’Hare) a US immigrant agent suspects that they are committing fraud, they
decide to travel to Andrew’s parent home in Sitka, Alaska so that they can get
to know each other so they can be able to answer the questions that Mr.
Gilbertson will ask them separately. The remaining characters include ‘Grandma Annie’
(Betty White) ‘Andrew’’s granny, ‘Joe Paxton’ (Craig T. Nelson) ‘Andrew’’s
father, ‘Grace Paxton’ (Mary Steenburgen) ‘Andrew’’s mother, ‘Ramone’ (Oscar

Comedy over the
years had lacked the spark and genuine laughter that audiences would actually
want to watch. And during that period where romantic comedy movies resurfaced
out onto the stage of Hollywood, ‘The Proposal’ gave us back this spark that many
wanted. And actually it shocked many how enjoyable the movie was. From the
overall story to the actual leading actors, the movie basically was released at
a time where it had a great recipe for success. Yes, the story may have clichés,
but that can be overlooked with the other positives that it had, such as the various successful comedic lines and moments and the chemistry between "Sandra Bullock" and "Ryan Reynolds".
