Official 'Monsters University' Poster.
'Pixar Animation' brings us the prequel of one of the most famous and beloved animation movies, 'Monsters, Inc.'. And though it may not be as iconic as its predecessor, 'Monsters University is sure a successful movie.

'Monsters University' reveals to us how 'Michael Wazowski'(Billy Crystal) and 'James P. Sullivan'(John Goodman) came to become friends. We get to know that 'Mike' had a childhood dream of becoming a 'Scarer', which inspired him to enroll in 'Monsters University' in order to get the education needed to prove that he could indeed scare little human kids and be at the same level as the big boys in 'Monsters, Inc.'. But soon reality will strike, that his smartness as well as his physique lacks the terrifying presence needed to scare little humans. Unlike his fellow fury student 'Sulley', who had a ton of raw talent coming from a prestigious family but lacks the discipline and commitment. Who will get to stay in the program by the end of the semester and will be chosen by the scary and highly accomplished Dean 'Abigail Hardscrabble'(Helen Mirren)? Other characters include middle-age returning student and founder of Ozma Kappa fraternity 'Don Charlton'(Joel Murray), 'Terri'(Sean Haynes) and 'Terry Perry'(Dave Foley) Ozma Kappa members who both share the same body, Ozma Kappa fraternity member 'Scott Squibbles'(Peter Sohn), 'Scott''s mother 'Sherry'(Julia Sweeney), Ozma Kappa fraternity memeber 'Art'(Charlie Day) and 'Roar Omega Roar president 'Johnny J. Worthington III'(Nathan Fillion).
It was a matter of time before a prequel or sequel to one of the most popular movies was going to be made. Though it took 12 years for 'Pixar' to make the prequel of 'Monsters, Inc.', for many fans the wait was worth it since it delivered a very enjoyable movie. In terms of artistry and effects, the movie utilized the developed technology very well to improve on the already established monsters world. The generic formula of giving the story with worthwhile lessons is applied in a fashionable way, yet it falls a bit short in terms of scale and importance from its predecessor by repeating many resembling aspects from the 2001 movie. But that's not to say that 'Monsters University' wasn't an enjoyable movie. On the contrary, the constant fun and laugh you get throughout the movie is extraordinary.
Director "Dan Scanlon", who previously worked as a story artist in 'Cars' and 'Toy Story 3', uses his experience in crafting a well organized and moving story. Considering this is his first feature film directing experience, "Dan" provides the basics of such animated movie whilst bringing his personal stamp on it. The story and script, which was put by "Dan" along with "Robert L. Baird" and "Daniel Gerson"('Cars' and 'Monsters, Inc."), intelligently pays homage to college fun and gags, yet it successfully manages to avoid traditional routes. But seeing that the end result is known, many acknowledged that this story wasn't a necessary story to be told. And the repeating themes and ideas of the 2001 movie don't help the movie's case. Still the movie manages to be enjoyable and funny. The time frame could have been trimmed at times. And the score, which was composed by "Randy Newman"('Monsters, Inc.' and 'Toy Story 3'), complemented the animated movie, making use of "Newman"'s experience.
The visual effects of this animated movie are spectacular. 'Pixar''s vision in its movies is trying to bring as much realism as possible. And this vision could be seen in 'Monsters University' by the degree of detail that was found in elements such as the buildings of the university. The characters were brought to like with the utilization of bright colors and creative ideas for each character to bring uniqueness. The '3-D' helps with the overall experience, yet for those who do not like this technology watching it in regular format will not ruin the experience. My favorite scenes of the movie were the opening sequence, the first battle of the fraternities, 'Mike' and 'Sulley' working together in the end and the final fraternity challenge.
The cast of 'Monsters University' was lead by its main lead voices and supported by a good cast. Many were solely persuaded to watch this prequel once the announcement that "Billy Crystal" and "John Goodman" would return to voice their respective characters. "Billy" and "John" gave us in 2001 one of the best on-screen bromance ever on the big screen, and to watch this energy and chemistry returning was exciting to watch. This chemistry between these two actors was one of the highlights of this movie. The emergence of new voices and characters lead to a breath of fresh air. Ozma Kappa characters, which were voiced by "Joel Murray", "Sean Haynes", "Dave Foley", "Peter Sohn" and 'Charlie Day", each brought a certain element of comedy and laughter that many enjoyed. "Helen Mirren"'s voice fitted perfectly her character, and the remaining supporting characters each brought a certain exciting element to the whole story.
'Monsters University is an uplifting and enjoyable movie to watch; however, in terms of narrative innovation and creative accomplishments, the movie fails to reach the same heights as 2001's movie 'Monsters, Inc.'.

What a nice review! I allow my kids to watch only the useful content so that they can learn something at the very same time of being entertained. The shows by Andy Yeatman are absolutely perfect for them. I believe that all of the kids’ stories should inspire the kids for ‘something good’.
