Official "Star Trek Into Darkness" Poster.
'Star Trek Into Darkness' was one of the most anticipated movies of 2013. And thank god it didn't disappoint. For all those who were waiting for a great sci-fi adventure with all the loved 'Star Trek' characters, this is exactly what you will get in this movie.

"Chris Pine" and "Zachary Quinto".
USS Enterprise.
After returning from a mission that exposed the Enterprise, when Captain 'James T. Kirk'(Chris Pine) tried to save the life of his friend and Commander 'Spock'(Zachary Quinto), 'Kirk' is demoted to admiral. But while the enterprise was dealing with its own issues, an attack at a secret Enterprise Section 31 leads to a meeting for the Starfleet commanders. And when Dr. Harrison(Benedict Cumberbatch) kills many of the people attending the meeting including Admiral 'Christopher Pike'(Bruce Greenwood), 'Kirk''s former captain and mentor, 'Kirk' is reinstated as captain of the 'Enterprise', and here a journey of revenge, surprises, tretury and excitement starts.
"Zoe Saldana".
"Benedict Cumberbatch".
We also have communication officer Lieutenant 'Nyota Uhura'(Zoe Saldana), chief medical officer Lieutenant Commander Dr. 'Leonard McCoy'(Karl Urban) aka 'Bones', second officer and chief engineer Lieutenant Commander 'Montgomery Scott'(Simon Pegg) aka 'Scotty', third officer and helmsman Lieutenant 'Hikaru Sulu'(John Cho), navigator and engineer 'Pave Chekov'(Anton Yelchin), Fleet Admiral 'Alexander Marcus'(Peter Weller), his daughter and science officer Dr. 'Carol Marcus'(Alice Eve), and Starfleet Officer and Section 31 worker 'Thomas Harewood'(Noel Clark).
"Chris Pine".
"Simon Pegg".
After the success of the 2009 movie 'Star Trek', it was clear that a sequel will be made. Although it took more time than anticipated to make the movie, 'Star Trek Into Darkness' was finally made. Many critics and fans loved the fact that this new 'Star Trek' franchise differentiated itself from the previous 'Star Trek' movies through the title where no number was included in it. Even though this movie isn't fresh as the 2009 movie, still it will definitely be one of the best sci-fi movies ever for years to come. It definitely delivered after the big hype that it got. And Thank God J.J. Abrams returned for this sequel.
"Zachary Quinto".
"Benedict Cumberbatch" and
"Karl Urban",
Many 'Star Trekkers' may disagree with me, but in my opinion "J.J. Abrams" was able to take this universe, its loved characters and themes and make it something that is unique but at the same time being respectful to the original series. I am a huge fan of his directing style. It does not let down the script and at the same time incorporates vivid and sharp visual effects with great imagery. Writers team "Roberto Orci" and "Alex Kurtzman", whom both returns to helm the script, in my opinion did an exceptional good job. They were able to expand the 'Star Trek' universe, but at the same time creating a more deep and compelling story, which actually has a good villain. "Michael Giacchino" did a wonderful job with the score, which helped the movie.
"Alice Eve" and "Chris Pine".
"John Cho".
The opening scene was really great; it was definitely great to see the USS Enterprise team working back together. And after that, the movie moves at a really good pace, and tackles all the story's points really well, although the time frame may be a little bit long. This was the second movie after ' Iron Man 3' which had a twist regarding the villain, which I liked and enjoyed. The action sequences and stunts were great but still you feel a little bit underwhelmed just because everyone expected a great action scene that would blow our minds away, which was unfortunately not found. Loved the twist on one of the famous 'Star Trek' scene towards the end, where the roles are switched between 'Kirk' and 'Spock'. The ending was pleasantly predictable and leaves room for future sequels.
"Zachary Quinto" and
"Zoe Saldana".
"Anton Yelchin".
One of the positive things of this movie is the large and talented cast. And the chemistry and dialogue between the cast is one of the things that made the movie enjoyable. As usual "Chris Pine"s role as 'Kirk' was his breakthrough performance. And he did a great job again giving his unique portrayal for this character. I was a little bit disappointed in the character of 'Spock' played by "Zachary Quinto". In the 2009 movie, his character had more development than this one, but still "Zachary" did a great job. And the entertaining chemistry between 'Kirk' and 'Spock' was a positive thing in this movie, like the previous one. I expected even more involvement for "Zoe Saldana"'s character 'Nyota Uhura’. And same goes to her character's relationship with 'Spock' which was used in a brief and not expanded manner. "Benedict Cumberbatch" was really great playing former Commander 'John Harrison'. He was able to portray a good villain to the story, a point which was lacking in the previous movie. Though he would have benefited from a bit more development, he gave a memorable performance. And the character's twist and revelation was awesome.
"Alice Eve", "Simon Pegg", "Karl Urban",
and "Chris Pine".
"Zachary Quinto",
"Benedict Cumberbatch", and
"Chris Pine".
Continuing with the cast, characters of "Simon Pegg", "Karl Urban", "John Cho", and "Anton Yelchin" were also a little bit under-used. I would have loved if their character's involvement with the story was bigger. Still each one of their characters had at a certain point a time to shine and to be shown, which I appreciated. Very pleased that the involvement of "Alice Eve" was relevant to the story since, many times when new characters are added, they lack importance to the overall story. But "Alice Eve" did a very good job with her character, which allowed us to enjoy her performance. Not to spoil the movie to those who haven't watched it yet, but overall I was pleased with the twist of "Peter Weller"'s character, though I still wanted more from his character. Pleased of the involvement of "Bruce Greenwood" and "Leonard Nimoy" again from the 2009 'Star Trek' movie as 'Christopher Pike' and 'Spock Prime'.
No one can deny that 'Star Trek Into Darkness' was able to improve from the mistakes of 'Star Trek', which led to a great and entertaining movie , that could still have improved in some areas. 'Star Trek Into Darkness' was definitely one of the best and overlooked movie of 2013.
