Official '2 Guns' Poster.
Pairing up two of the most famous and talked about guys in Hollywood made '2 Guns' in the end an amusing and pleasant action movie.

"Mark Wahlberg".
"Denzel Washington".
The movie centers around two bank robbers 'Robert Trench'(Denzel Washington), knows also as 'Bobby', and 'Michael Stigman'(Mark Wahlberg), also known as 'Stig'. These two bank robbers, who are unknown to each other, are actually undercover government agents. 'Bobby' is a DEA agent, who has to penetrate a Mexican drug cartel, which is headed by kingpin 'Papi Greco'(Edward James Olmos). While 'Stig' is a former NCIS operative charged with stealing from narcotic suppliers in order to give it to the NCIS SEAL black ops to fund their missions abroad. When both of them realize the other's betrayal and both of them get in their respective troubles, they must work together in order to clear their names, while being hunted down by a ruthless mercenary 'Earl'(Bill Paxton). We also have 'Deb Rees'(Paula Paxton) 'Bobby''s love interest, 'Harold Quince'(James Marsden) 'Stig''s commanding officer, 'Jessup'(Robert John Burke) 'Bobby''s superior, and 'Admiral Tuwey'(Fred Ward).

"Bill Paxton".
"Paula Patton".
This movie is based on the same name graphic novel written by "Steven Grant", who has worked for and published for both Marvel and DC comics. However, many have expressed that this movie has also taken few story lines from 1973 movie 'Charley Varrick'. And the thriller feel of the movie is showing. But to be honest, the only real draw for the audiences to watch the movie was the lead pair. "Denzel Washington" and "Mark Wahlberg" were at the center of all the marketing and without them we probably wouldn’t be sitting here talking about the movie. But to be fair, the supporting elements other than the lead cast are good enough to make the movie an enjoyable one. The crime-thriller genre these few years has been growing, and the producers of this movie were able to capitalize on it by bringing all the main elements to make '2 Guns' one of the good movies of this genre.

"James Marsden".
"Denzel Washington" and
"Mark Wahlberg".
The choice of "Baltasar Kormákur" as a director was a clever choice. The reason was because of his work with "Wahlberg" in 'Contraband', which is in the same category of movie as this one. He was able to center the pair of actors, while still able to juggle around them enough action set pieces and keeping the movie flowing in a smooth matter. And at the same time he was able to derivate from it, what many described it as an R-rated buddy cup movie. The story of the movie was pretty straight forward, which was the best way a story in this kind of movie could be made in order to avoid confusion and clutter. Yet "Blake Masters"('Brotherhood' and 'Law and Order: L.A.') could have included more than the dry twists and mediocre character development for the supporting characters. "Clinton Shorter"('District 9' and 'Contraband') did an acceptable job with the score, seeing that these kinds of movies don’t need over-the-top score but a more of an intelligent one.

The overall pace of the movie was disturbed. At the beginning it was slow, than took a very rapid tempo. And then towards the middle and through the end is where for me the rhythm of the movie took the pace it should have taken all along. The action pieces were pretty impressive, and I was really pleased with the limited use of special effects for tackling for example the explosions or fighting. The opening of the movie was clever way by the director to lure the audience through the great chemistry between the main characters. My favorite scenes of the movie were when 'Stig' was helping 'Bobby' escape the Navy Seals who were entering 'Stig''s apartment, and I loved the climax fight towards the end. And to be honest all scenes that included both "Washington" and "Wahlberg" together were exciting to watch.

"Mark Wahlberg".
"Paula Patton" and
"Denzel Washington".
One of the positive matters that were dealt by the writers was the placing of importance on pair's shared relationship and partnership and less on the individual's background and personal problems, which I personally liked very much. "Denzel Washington" is a renowned actor in Hollywood, where he is able in every role is thrown into to thrive and put his exceptional personal flame on it. "Mark Wahlberg" has been shining in the last couple of years and will keep on shinning more. His portrayal of this character was just phenomenal, where it was one of the rare times where I enjoyed from beginning to end watching an actor playing magnificently such a freed-up and excitingly sarcastic badass character. The supporting actors provided solid performances such as "Paula Patton", who provided a very effective chemistry with "Denzel", and "Bill Paxton", who provided a very fascinating performance that, included a very interesting take on Russian roulette.
In the end, the crime action thriller movie '2 Guns' has all the right elements, which includes a great pair of distinguished actors, to be a good enjoyable movie amongst the superheroes and love stories storming the movie scene lately.
